Message From NYSCEEA's President...
I’m pleased to report that the 2013 NYSCEEA Conference lived up to its name and that we all hit it out of the park! Attendees made valuable connections, shared incredible experiences and information, and celebrated experiential education. Congratulations to Megan Ackley, our VP and Conference Chair, for organizing such a fantastic program!
We honored three very special individuals. Xiomara Loarte of Mount Saint Mary College was awarded the 2013 NYSCEEA Four-Year Student of the Year Award for her internship experiences with the NYS Senate and Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney. She attended the awards’ luncheon and accepted her award with her family. The 2013 Two-Year Student of the Year Award went to Dana Mondello of Suffolk County Community College. Dana, who provided us with an acceptance video clip, was recognized for her internship achievements with the Suffolk County Police Department. Additionally, Anne Marie Gutherie received the 2013 NYSCEEA Honorary Award. Anne Marie has been a member of NYSCEEA since 2001 and served as Dean of the Center for Experiential Learning at Keuka College for 12 years until her retirement earlier this fall. Anne Marie was elected to serve on the NYSCEEA Board in 2003 and eventually took over the role as Technology Director. She created and maintained our webpage, enabling members and the public to learn more about NYSCEEA and our mission. Congratulations to Anne Marie, Dana and Xiomara!
Please consider a role on the NYSCEEA Board. Not only will you work with a fantastic group of professionals, but you will have a direct hand in the planning of our 40th Anniversary Celebration at the 2014 Conference. There are a number of positions available so be sure to look for the call for nominations which will be emailed in the next few days.
Thank you again for all of your support. I have truly enjoyed working with all of you and look forward to future events!
Kathleen O'Keefe, President, NYSCEEA
